EAST LANSING, Mich. - Incoming Michigan State signee Gabby Yurik was named Michigan Miss Golf last Sunday at the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association All-State Banquet at Eagle Eye Golf Club.
Yurik claimed medalist honors at the 2011 MHSAA Division 1 Lower Peninsula State Championships with a 153 (78-75) and led Stoney Creek High School to a runner-up finish for the second straight year. She also won medalist honors at the Division 1 regionals with a 72.
The Rochester, Mich., native earned MIGCA (Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association) Super Team honors three times (2009-11) and was a four-time MIGCA Division 1 All-State selection (2008-11). She finished in the top five at all four MHSAA state championship tournaments during her career (first in 2011; third in 2010; second in 2009; fifth in 2008) and finished in second place in stroke play at the 2011 Michigan Women's Amateur.
Yurik, who will join the Spartans beginning in the 2012-13 season, will be the third Michigan Miss Golf winner on the team. Liz Nagel (DeWitt) won the award in 2007 and 2008, while Christine Meier (Rochester) earned the honor in 2009.
Yurik signed a National Letter of Intent with Michigan State on Nov. 11.
