WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Michigan State women's golf team is in 10th place at the Landfall Tradition after shooting a 312 in the first round on Friday. Six of the 18 teams in the elite tournament are ranked in the Golfweek Top 25 rankings, and 15 are ranked in the top 50.
Junior Caroline Powers led the Spartans with a 1-over 73 (36-37) and is tied for third on the individual leaderboard. Powers had six birdies on the day and is just two shots off the lead.
Senior Lindsey Solberg started out with a 40 on her front nine, but bounced back with a 36 on the back nine and finished with a 4-over 76 and is tied for 13th.
Sophomore Allyssa Ferrell carded an 80 (43-37), while freshman Trisha Witherby rounded out the team scoring with an 83 (46-37).
Sophomore Christine Meier shot an 84 (42-42).
No. 3 Auburn leads the field with a 297.
