
Women's Tennis Concludes Second Day of Spartan Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich.- The Michigan State women's tennis team concluded the second day of the Spartan Invitational today (Sept. 25). The team finished the afternoon with three doubles victories and three single victories.
In a close match in the Doubles A draw, senior Whitney Wilson and freshman Marina Bohrer fell to Halabi and Salas from the University of Detroit, 9-8. The tandem then rebounded to beat Bjerrehusl and Sherwood from Cleveland State, 8-5.
In more doubles action, freshmen Katarina Lingl and Olga Chernova topped Coffman and Caravajal from the University of Toledo, 8-6, in Doubles B draw. The pairing then handed Cornwell and Strakhova of the University of Detroit an 8-4 loss. Junior Ashley Stockwell and freshman Jennifer Yen fell to Fernadez and Weldon from the University of Detroit in Doubles C draw.
In the singles matches of the day, Lingl defeated Border from the University of Toledo, 6-4, 6-3. Wilson suffered a loss to Jogasuna from the Akron, 6-1, 6-1. Bohrer fell to Mebuke from Eastern Michigan, 6-1, 6-1, while Michaela Silesova defeated Reuland of Bowling Green, 7-5, 6-7, 6-3.
Chernova also recorded a singles win over Cristello from the University of Toledo, 6-0, 6-4. Freshman Valentina Rusakova downed Sherwood from Cleveland State, 6-4, 7-6. In the Singles D draw, Stockwell defeated Carvajal, 6-2, 6-4.
