
Spartans Fall to No. 1 UNC, 3-0

College Station, Texas - The Michigan State women's soccer team allowed two second-half goals and fell to top-ranked (and defending National Champion) North Carolina, 3-0, in the finals of the Aggieland Invitational at Texas A&M. MSU finishes the tournament with a 1-1 record.
Alyssa Rich got the Tar Heels on the board less than five minutes into the game with a one-timer inside the six-yard box. Jill Flietstra made four saves in the first half (and nine in the game) to keep the Spartans down by just a goal at the half.
UNC managed another early goal in the second half, getting on the board in the 50th minute. Kealia Ohai converted a throw-in deep in the offensive zone for a 2-0 lead. Brittani Bartok gave the Tar Heels thieir final tally at 73:47.
Michigan State again went deep into its bench, utilizing 17 field players in the contest. UNC limited the Spartans to just three shots, all of which were on net. UNC peppered Flietstra with 25 shots, 12 on net. The Tar Heels also had a 13-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Spartans will have a full week of training before their next contest, the home opener next Sunday against Western Michigan at DeMartin Stadium at noon.
