EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's golf senior Jack Newman was selected to the 2009-10 PING All-Midwest Region Team, announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) on Wednesday.
It is the second-straight season that Newman has been named to the All-Midwest Region Team, joining Ryan Brehm (2004-08) as the only multiple time MSU honorees. Newman is the 11th Spartan overall and it marks the sixth straight year that a MSU golfer has been honored. A total of 153 players across six regions - Northeast, East, Southeast, Midwest, Central and West - earned all-region honors.
Newman ended his Spartan career third on the career scoring list at 73.59. A three-time Second Team All-Big Ten selection, he represented MSU at the NCAA Central Regional, tying for 11th. Newman's season scoring average of 72.03 was the second best in program history. He also led the Spartans with 109 birdies, six top-10 and nine top-20 finishes, and 15 sub-par rounds.
