Michigan State defeated Tennessee in the Midwest Regional Final, 70-69, to advance to the eighth Final Four in school history (1957, 1979, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2009, 2010)...it's the sixth Final Four appearance for the Spartans in the last 12 years, a feat that only Duke and North Carolina have accomplished since the NCAA Tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985.
All of MSU's Final Four appearances since 1999 have been under head coach Tom Izzo...Izzo and Duke's Mike Krzyzewski are the only coaches to advance to the Final Four six times in a 12-year span since the expansion of the tournament in 1985.
Izzo's six Final Fours are third most among active coaches (Krzyzewski with 11, Roy Williams with seven)...Izzo is now 6-1 in regional final games...the past two seasons, Izzo is 14-2 in March...Izzo is 35-11 (.761) all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
Michigan State won its four games in the Midwest Region by a combined 13 points.
Durrell Summers was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Midwest Region...he led the Spartans with 21 points in the regional final, going 8-for-10 from the floor with four 3-pointers...Summers has scored in double-figures in seven straight NCAA Tournament games, averaging 16.4 points in those games...he is averaging a team-best 20.0 points in this year's NCAA Tournament...with the scored tied at 66, Summers hit a key 3-pointer with 2:47 left in the game to give MSU a 69-66 lead...with MSU facing a five-point deficit (47-42), Summers hit another key 3-pointer to cut the lead to two points...that 3-pointer sparked a 17-4 MSU run, as the Spartans jumped out to an 8-point lead at 59-51 with 11:42 remaining.
Raymar Morgan hit the game-winning free throw with 1.8 seconds left to give MSU the 70-69 victory...Morgan recorded his 13th career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds; MSU's record is 13-0 in those games...it was his first career double-double in the NCAA Tournament...his 10 rebounds were also a best for him in an NCAA Tournament game...six of his 10 rebounds were on the offensive end.
With his 13 points, Morgan moved into 10th place all-time in scoring in Michigan State history, passing Morris Peterson...Morgan now has 1,593 career points.
Draymond Green was also named to the Midwest All-Region team, averaging 8.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in MSU's four wins...he scored 13 points against the Volunteers.
Korie Lucious played 35 minutes after playing a career-high 39 minutes against Northern Iowa on Friday...Lucious scored eight points and swiped a career-high five steals against Tennessee.
Tennessee started the game 6-for-6 from 3-point range, but missed nine of its next 10 attempts to finish 7-for-16 for the game.
