MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Michigan State women's tennis team dropped their first Big Ten road match to Minnesota on Friday, March 27, in Minneapolis. The Gophers defeated the Spartans, 6-1, leaving Michigan State at 6-9 on the season.
Minnesota picked up the doubles point to gain early momentum, but not without a fight from the No. 1 Spartan doubles team of junior Whitney Wilson (Evansville, Ind.) and freshman Amy Barton (Brisbane, Australia). The Spartan tandem battled hard but ultimately fell to Alessandra Ferrazze and Alexa Palen, 9-7.
Barton went on to singles to earn the only win for the Green and White at No. 4 singles. She defeated Doron Muravnik, 6-3, 6-4, to post the lone point for the Spartans.
Michigan State will next face the Hawkeyes in Iowa City, Iowa on Sunday, March 28, at 12 p.m.
