
Women's Tennis Prepares to Compete in Wildcat Invite

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team will travel to the campus of Northwestern this weekend, Oct. 8-10, to take part in the Wildcat Invitational. The Spartans competed in the Wolverine Invitational last weekend.
During the Wolverine Invitation, freshman Valentina Rusakova advanced to the Blue draw single's finals before falling to Michelle Sulahian from Michigan, 6-3, 6-1. Ruakova completed the weekend with three singles wins. Freshman Olga Chernova ended the weekend with a record of 2-2, recording wins over Remi Martin of Purdue (6-2, 6-0) and Rachel Hush of Marquette (7-5, 6-2).
The Maize draw saw freshman Marina Bohrer tally two wins on the weekend when she downed Jenn Rabot from Purdue, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, and Maggie Remynse of Western Michigan, 7-5, 7-6. Senior Whitney Wilson went 2-2 on the weekend, recording a win over both Mara Schmidt of Purdue, 6-3, 6-3, and Mara Nivia of Western Michigan, 6-4, 6-4. Freshman Katarina Lingl completed the weekend with two victories as well. Lingl topped Remi Martin from Purdue, 6-0, 6-2, and Mila Shustora of WMU, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.
The duo of Wilson and Bohrer recorded MSU's only doubles win of the weekend when the pair defeated Remynse and Paunink from Western Michigan, 8-5.
In the flight A singles, sophomore Michaela Silesova will face Brittany Parks from Oklahoma University. Wilson will face Alexa Palen from Minnesota in flight B singles along with Lingl who will match up against Christina Raymond of DePaul.
In flight C singles, Chernova will face off against Jessica Young of Iowa. Bohrer will play Selma Salkovic of DePaul in flight D singles. In doubles action, Wilson and Bohrer will pair up against Morgina and Popova of South Carolina. Silesova and Chernova will face Poggensee-Wei and Harazin of Iowa.
The Wildcat Invitational is the last tournament the Spartans will compete in before participating in the ITA Midwest Regional Championships in Ann Arbor, Oct. 21-26.
