Both teams came out strong and were scoreless until midfielder Brent Rosendall put MSU on the scoreboard in the 27th minute of play. The ball was put in play off a corner kick from Mark Barone, ricocheted off a fellow Spartan, then put into the net by Rosendall. The goal was the junior's third of the season.
Forward Domenic Barone advanced the Spartan lead to two goals off another corner kick, receiving the pass from his twin brother, Mark, and heading it into the back of the net for his team-best fifth goal of the season. His marker came in the 64th minute.
Steinlage made two saves and picked up his eighth victory of the season.
The Spartans now look to preparation for a critical Big Ten contest on Sunday at Penn State. Michigan State enters that matchup with a 1-1 Big Ten record. Gametime in State College is 3 p.m.
