
Women's Tennis Wraps up Wolverine Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team finished up play at the Wolverine Invitational on Sunday, Oct. 3, in Ann Arbor, Mich.. The Spartans ended the last day of the tournament with one singles win and one doubles win.
Freshman Katarina Lingl recorded the only singles victory for the Spartans in the consolation singles round when she fought for a 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over Mila Shustora from Western Michigan. Also in the singles consolation round, freshman Marina Bohrer lost to Brook Bolender from Michigan, 6-0, 6-1, and freshman Olga Chernova fell to Chelsea Utting from Marquette, 7-5, 2-6, 6-0. Senior Whitney Wilson suffered a defeat to Bhavani Tirumurti from Purdue by scores of 6-7 (1), 6-2, 6-3.
Freshman Valentina Rusakova fell to Michelle Sulahian from Michigan in the Blue draw finals, 6-3, 6-1. Rusakova recorded three singles wins this weekend.
In doubles play, Wilson and Bohrer defeated Remynse and Pasunink from Western Michigan, 8-5, to record MSU's only doubles win of the tournament. Lingl and Chernova fell to Schmidt and Rabot from Purdue, 8-2.
The Spartans will travel to Evanston, Ill., to the to the campus of Northwestern for the Wildcat Invitational, Oct. 9-11.
