SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Lauren Hill scored at the 63:46 mark of the second half to break a scoreless tie but Santa Barbara knotted the game just under four minutes later and the two teams ended up playing to a 1-1 tie Thursday (Sept. 3) night in Santa Barbara, Calif.
Michigan State held a slight, 4-3, shot advantage in the first half and Hill finally broke through for the Spartans in the 64th minute when she followed her own shot and put it inside the left post for a 1-0 Spartan lead.
For Hill it was her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
The lead was short-lived however as the Gauchos' Erin Ortega scored at the 66:24 mark to knot the game at one.
The two teams managed just one shot apiece in the two overtime sessions.
Spartan goalkeeper Jill Flietstra made four stops in the game.
MSU returns to action on Sunday (Sept. 6) at 1 p.m. at DeMartin Stadium against Central Michigan.
