ROCHESTER, Mich. - Michigan State women's golf junior Natalie Brehm finished in second place at the 93rd Michigan Women's Amateur Championship, which concluded Saturday at the Great Oaks Country Club. Brehm, a Mount Pleasant, Mich., native, narrowly missed winning the tournament, falling 1-up to Britney Hamilton in the final round of match play.
Brehm advanced to the match play portion of the tournament by tying for 16th with a 162 (82-80) during two rounds of stroke play.
Once advancing to the round of 32 match play, the 17th-seeded Brehm defeated No. 16 Katrina Templar, 3 & 2, then upset top-seeded Elise Swartout in 19 holes. In the quarterfinals, Brehm topped eighth-seeded Christina Cibrario, 6 & 5, before beating No. 13 Gabrielle Yurik in the semifinals, 3 & 2.
In the championship match, Brehm was one up on the par-five 17th hole, but Hamilton came back to win holes 17 and 18 to win the tournament.
