
Men's Golf Finishes 11th at 2009 Big Ten Championships

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's golf team wrapped up the 2009 Big Ten Championship on Sunday at the Penn State Blue Course, finishing 11th at 74-over par 1210 (293-296-312-309). Illinois cruised to the title with a 13-stroke win, while Northwestern's Eric Chin took individual medalist honors.
Junior Jack Newman highlighted the weekend for the Spartans, tying for 10th individually at seven-over par 291 (69-70-77-75). Newman has placed in the top-15 in each of his three appearances at the Big Tens. He had eight birdies over the 72 holes, and played the par-5s at two-under par.
Sophomore Payne Gniewek tied for 43rd overall at 19-over par 303 (71-76-78-78), while junior Andrew Ladwig was tied for 45th at 21-over 305 (72-7r 5-79-79), freshman Jimmy Dewling was 54th at 27-over 311 (81-75-76-77) and sophomore Graham Baillargeon was 55th at 57-over 341 (83-80-82-96). Gniewek and Dewling tied for the most birdies by a Spartan this weekend with nine.
