
Women's Tennis Falls, 7-0, at No. 33 Illinois

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Michigan State women's tennis team (8-13, 1-7 Big Ten) fell, 7-0, to No. 33 Illinois at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex on Saturday. The Illini are now 17-5 overall and 8-1 in Big Ten play this season. The Spartans fall to 1-8 on the road and 0-11 against ITA ranked opponents this season.
The Spartans looked to be in control early during doubles play as they held the early lead in all three mathces. However, the Illini rallied back to win at all three doubles positions. Senior Stephanie Kebler (Okemos, Mich.) and sophomore Whitney Wilson (Evansville, Ind.) fell, 8-6, to Chelcie Abajian and Leigh Finnegan at No. 1 doubles.
Senior Ana Milosavljevic (Johannesburg, South Africa) and freshman Elena Ivanova (Moscow, Russia) fell at the No. 2 spot, 8-4, to Megan Fudge and Marisa Lambropoulos. Freshman Dana Guentert (Lilburn, Ga.) and sophomore Lindsey Lonergan (Cincinnati, Ohio) lost to Amy Allin and Annie McCarthy at the No. 3 spot, 8-6.
In singles action, Guentert saw her seven-match winning-streak end as she fell, 6-3, 6-2, to Marisa Lambropoulos at No. 4 singles. Guentert still has 18 wins on the season, the second-most of any Spartan, trailing only Wilson, who has 19. Guentert also owns the best winnig percentage on the team this season.
The Spartans return to action tomorrow, Sunday, April 18, when they travel to Indiana for the final regular season match of the year.
