
Women's Tennis Hits the Road for Purdue Invite

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team will travel to West Lafayette, Ind. to compete at the Purdue Invitational Friday, Nov. 6, through Sunday, Nov. 8. Marquette, Penn State, the Spartans and host Purdue will compete this weekend at the invite.
Doubles action will be played Friday and end Saturday, immediately followed by the start of singles action, which will conclude Sunday.
This is the last fall tournament the Spartans will compete in before spring play which begins in January of 2010.
The Spartans last competed at the ITA's where junior Whitney Wilson (Evansville, Ind.) was the only Spartan to compete in the main draw of singles action. Wilson fell in the first round to Katarina Millinkovic of DePaul, 7-5, 7-6(5).
Sophomore Elena Ivanova (Moscow, Russia) and freshman Nicole Herzog (Manillia, Brazil) teamed together in doubles play to defeat Velkova and Welch of Youngstown State, 8-4, but fell in the second round to Murray and Lee of Northwestern, 8-0.
