BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana Hoosiers' Carly Samp got a goal at the 89:39 mark to break a 0-0 tie and give the No. 20 Michigan State women's soccer team its first loss of the season on Friday (Oct. 2) night in Bloomington, Ind. Michigan State tied a program record by going unbeaten in its first nine games of the season and now stands at 7-1-2 on the year while Indiana improved to 9-3 and 1-2 in conference play.
The Spartans managed just one shot in the fist half and were outshot, 25-5, for the game. The Green and White's two best scoring opportunities came off corner kicks in the second half as Samantha Cook and Kelsey Tait each had headers that missed the net.
MSU goalkeeper Jill Flietstra made a career-high 12 saves in the defeat.
Michigan State will remain in the state of Indiana and take on No. 12 Purdue on Sunday (Oct. 4) at 1 p.m. in West Lafayette.
