Women's Tennis Ends Play at Wildcat Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team concluded the final day of the Wildcat Invite at Northwestern University Sunday, Oct. 11. Sophomore Elena Ivanova (Moscow, Russia) picked up the only win for the day in singles action.
Freshmen Nicole Herzog (Manillia, Brazil) and Amy Barton (Brisbane, Australia) both competed for the Green and White in Flight B singles. Herzog forced Connelly of Oklahoma into a three-set match, but struggled to come out with the win falling, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5. Barton also battled her way into a three-set match with Baronayte of Akron after winning the first set, 6-1, but ultimately fell to her Akron opponent, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Flight C saw some success from the Spartans as Ivanova dominated competitor Benjamin of Akron, 6-1, 6-2. Junior Whitney Wilson (Evansville, Ind.) fought through a three-set match, but fell to Perelra of South Carolina, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
Senior Christine Milliken (Traverse City, Mich.) fell to Gruber of Wisconsin in Flight D singles, 6-4, 6-3.
The Spartans will return to Evanston, Ill. Oct. 22 through Oct. 27 to compete at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships.
