Women's Tennis Begins Singles Play at Wildcat Invite

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team opened singles play on Oct. 10 at the second day of the Wildcat Invite at Northwestern University. Junior Whitney Wilson (Evansville, Ind.) and senior Christine Milliken (Traverse City, Mich.) both won in the first round of singles action.
In Flight C, Wilson defeated Malsak of South Carolina in a back-and-forth match, but came out on top, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, to advance on to round two where she fell to Muchrefova of Northwestern, 6-3, 6-4.
Representing for the Spartans in Flight D was Milliken who topped Main of South Carolina, 6-1, 6-3, but then fell to Nivia of Western Michigan in round two, 6-0, 6-0.
Freshman Nicole Herzog (Manillia, Brazil) fought a tough battle in the backdraw of Flight B winning the first set, 6-2, against McKnight of DePaul, but McKnight outlasted Herzog finishing the match, 6-2, 6-4.
The tournament will conclude tomorrow, Sunday Oct. 11, at Northwestern, with play slated to begin at 9 a.m.
