Goran Suton posted his third double-double of the season and 16th of his career. MSU is now 12-4 when he records a double-double. His nine free throws and 11 attempts were career-highs.
The Spartans out-rebounded the Wildcats, 39-23, eclipsing their average of a +15.6 rebounding advantage in Big Ten play.
Northwestern's win was its first ever in the Breslin Center, snapping MSU's 21-game home winning streak against the Wildcats. It was their first win in 16 tries at the Breslin Center and first in East Lansing since Jan. 7, 1984 (76-69).
Kalin Lucas tied a season high with three 3-point buckets. His 20 points tonight marked the fourth game this season scoring at least 20 points and fifth of his career.
With the loss, MSU's 11-game winning streak came to an end. It was the Spartans' longest winning streak since reeling off 11 consecutive wins last season (Nov. 24, 2007-Jan. 8, 2008).
MSU leads the all-time series, 77-37, with Northwestern. Tom Izzo is now 22-3 against Northwestern while Bill Carmody is now 2-15 MSU all-time.
Northwestern's win snapped MSU's 28-game home winning streak. MSU's last home loss was against Ohio State on Feb. 3, 2007.
