ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Junior Laura Kueny of the Spartan women's golf team shot a first-round 71 (37-34) to tie for the lead after day one of the GAM (Golf Association of Michigan) Women's Championship held at the University of Michigan Golf Course Tuesday afternoon. Kueny, who won the title last season at the Saginaw Country Club, will look to win her second consecutive championship Wednesday as the 36-hole stroke play event concludes.
Ten other Spartans, in addition to head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll, are participating in the event. Sophomore Michelle Bowles is currently tied for fourth after firing a 2-over 73 (39-34), while freshmen Lindsey Solberg (36-38) and Shannon Warner (37-37) are tied for fifth at 77 (+6).
Slobodnik-Stoll, who qualified for the 2008 USGA Women's Mid-Amateur earlier this summer, is tied for 17th with a 78 (37-41).
