Men's Golf Shares 36 Hole Lead at Boilermaker Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's golf team shares the opening day lead with Indiana University at the 2008 Boilermaker Invitational, held at the Kampen Course at the Brick Boilermaker Golf Complex. The No. 23-ranked Spartans, with rounds of 281 and 282, and the No. 24-ranked Hoosiers finished the initial 36 holes at 13-under par 563, six strokes ahead of Illinois and Kent State.
Senior Ryan Brehm continues his impressive play of late, sitting in a tie for second at six-under par 138. Brehm is tied with Kent State's John Hahn, and trails Indiana's Jorge Campillo, who torn up with course at 13-under 131 (63-68).
Brehm began the day with a one-under 71, but moved up the leaderboard with a second round five-under 67.
Freshman Graham Baillargeon returned to the competitive lineup in solid fashion, firing a four-under 68 and a one-over 73 to stand among a group in eighth at three-under 141.
Two other Spartans finished the day under par, as sophomore Jack Newman and freshman Payne Gniewek are tied for 14th with a one-under par 143. Nerwman began with a one-over 73 and followed up with a two-under 70, while Gniewek carded rounds of one-under 71 and even-par 72.
Junior Randy Hutchison is the final MSU competitor this weekend and is currently tied for 30th with a two-over par 146 (71-75).
The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Sunday, beginning with a 9 a.m. ET shotgun start.
