
Drew Neitzel Earns Academic All-District Honors

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State senior guard Drew Neitzel has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 4 team. The district team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. Neitzel earned a spot on the team by posting a 3.27 grade-point average as an interdisciplinary humanities major.
As an all-district selection, Neitzel's name will now appear on the Academic All-America ballot. He is joined on the all-district squad by Belmont's Justin Hare, Western Michigan's Joe Reitz, Jacksonville State's Will Ginn and Kentucky's Mark Coury. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district. There are eight different districts across the country.
This season, Neitzel is averaging 13.7 points and 4.5 assists. He ranks fourth in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.33-to-1). For his career, Neitzel ranks 19th in MSU career scoring (1,335). He currently ranks fifth in career assists (537), second in career free-throw percentage (.854), and third in 3-point field goals made (232) and 3-point field goals attempted (578).
