
Women's Tennis Concludes Play at Purdue Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Michigan State women's tennis team concluded fall play at the Purdue Invitational at the Schwartz Tennis Center on Sunday. Four individuals- Stephanie Kebler (Okemos, Mich.), Ana Milosavljevic (Johannesburg, South Africa), Whitney Wilson (Evansville, Ind.) and Dana Guentert (Lilburn, Ga.)- posted perfect singles records in the tournament after posting wins on the final day.
Pacing the Spartans in the top spot was Kebler. After advancing to the title match, Kebler topped Bianca Gorbea of Louisville, where she posted a 7-6, 6-3 victory, earning the Flight 1 title. Kebler ended the weekend with three Flight 1 singles victories.
Milosavljevic finished the weekend with two wins in Fight 3. Milosavljevic squared off against Lindsey Jones of Louisville in her final match of the fall. After a highly competitive first set, which saw Milosavljevic earn a 7-6 win over Jones, Milosavljevic earned a 6-0 win in the second set to improve 2-0 on the weekend.
The Spartans were able to continue their singles success with victories by Guentert and Wilson. Guentert posted a win over Catherine Duboc of Cornell, 6-2, 6-1, and finished the Flight 6 with a 3-0 record. Wilson topped Gabi Duncan of Louisville in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, to finish Flight 6 with a 2-0 mark.
The Purdue Invitational was the final fall tournament for the Spartans, as they will open dual play on Jan. 18, 2009 at Louisville.
