EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's soccer team fell to Purdue, 2-0, Sunday (Oct. 5) afternoon in West Lafayette, Ind. The Boilermakers remain undefeated in conference play with the win at 3-0-1 and 9-3-2 overall, while the Spartans fall to 2-2 in the Big Ten and 10-3 overall.
"Today was a disappointing result," said MSU head coach Tom Saxton. "We played hard end to end and made a couple of mistakes and they capitalized. We matched up well and I thought we had equal chances. The difference in the game was that they capitalized on our errors."
Purdue put the Spartans in a hole early as Felicia Schroeder scored just over five minutes in to give the Boilermakers a 1-0 lead.
The two teams played evenly for the next 69 minutes with equal scoring chances coming at both ends of the field, before Schroeder scored her second goal of the game in the 75th minute to make the score 2-0.
The high-powered offensive attack of the Spartans was held in check by the Boilermakers for most of the afternoon as MSU registered just four shots. Spartan goalkeeper Lindsey Wrege made two saves.
The Spartans will return to DeMartin Stadium next weekend for a pair of conference matches. Friday (Oct. 10), MSU will host Ohio State at 4 p.m. and will take on Penn State at noon on Sunday (Oct. 12).
