Women's Golf Finishes 10th at Tar Heel Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The No. 21 Michigan State women's golf team shot a 301 on Sunday in the final round of the Tar Heel Invitational, its best round of the tournament, to finish in 10th place in the elite event that featured 10 ranked teams. The Spartans finished with a team score of 915 (309-305-301) at the par 72, 6,285-yard UNC Finley Golf Course, placing ahead of several top programs, including No. 14 Florida State and No. 19 South Carolina.
Junior Laura Kueny had her best round of the tournament with a 2-over 74 on Sunday to tie for 17th place, marking her 11th career top-20 finish. Kueny closed the tournament 8-over with a 224 (75-75-74).
Freshman Lindsey Solberg (79-72-76) and sophomore Aimee Neff (74-76-77) each tied for 28th place with scores of 227 (+11). Solberg's round of 72 on Saturday was the top individual round for MSU at the tournament.
Sophomore Michelle Bowles and senior Holly Niederkohr both posted their best scores on the tournament in the final round. Bowles shot a 79 on Sunday and finished at 242 (81-82-79). Niederkohr displayed dramatic improvement, finishing 11 strokes better than her first or second rounds with a 74 on Sunday, tying Kueny for the team's best round of the afternoon. The senior carded a 244 (85-85-74) for the weekend.
The Spartans resume action Oct. 18-19 at the Lady Northern Invitational on the campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind.
