Women's Golf Finishes Lady Northern in Second Overall

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Michigan State's women's golf program wrapped up its second tournament of the fall in second place, carding an overall 883 at the Lady Northern hosted at Penn State's Blue Course. Sophomore Laura Kueny topped the Spartan's individual finishes in second place with a one-under 215 over three rounds.
Last year, the Spartans hosted the Lady Northern at Forest Akers West and claimed the title, previewing their 2007 Big Ten Championship title. Among this year's Big Ten participants at the fall tournament, MSU finished highest, beating out third-place Indiana by 17 strokes.
Kueny entered Sunday's final round at even par and shot one-under for a three-day total of 215 (75-69-71). Freshman Aimee Neff opened up the tournament carding a 70 and followed with two 76-stroke rounds (70-76-76--222) to finish in seventh.
Sara Brown dropped four spots inthe final round (73-76-76--225), tying for twelfth while Holly Niederkohr held onto her 29th-place finish (80-75-78--233). Michelle Bowles wrapped up the day tied for 36th, and Jordyn Wells ended the invitational tied for 55th.
MSU women's golf picks up action Oct. 12-14 in Knoxville, Tenn., at the Mercedes Benz Collegiate Championship.
