Kickoff

The Michigan State women's soccer team (3-2) embarks on its busiest week of the season, playing three matches in five days. MSU starts the week at home versus Eastern Michigan on Wednesday, Sept. 19 before hosting Bowling Green on Friday, Sept. 21. The Spartans close the week at Central Michigan on Sunday, Sept. 23.

Scouting the Spartans

The Spartans enter the week with a 3-2 ledger. Fifth-year senior Nicole Galas is the starter in goal and has 19 saves. Senior co-captain Erin Doan, senior Taryn Lee and sophomore Katie Rehor anchor the Spartan defense. Sophomore Lauren Sinacola and senior co-captain Maureen Pawlak, who has 36 career points, are the top two players in the midfield. Leading scorer Lauren Hill, junior Kristi Timar and freshman Cara Freeman are the team's top forwards.

A LOOK BACK AT LAST WEEK

MSU defeated Detroit, 3-0, last Wednesday in a contest televised by the Big Ten Network. Lauren Hill scored twice and sophomore goalie Lindsey Wrege got the shutout in her first career start. Maureen Pawlak added a goal in the second half to put the match away.

NO MORE EXTRA TIME

Michigan State is 3-0 when playing just 90 minutes and 0-2 when extra time is necessary. MSU lost its season opener, 1-0, in overtime to BYU on Aug. 31 and dropped a 2-1 overtime decision at Lehigh on Sunday. The Spartans are 1-4-1 in overtime contests over the past three seasons.

HILL DOUBLES UP

Lauren Hill's two-goal performance in MSU's 3-0 win over Detroit last Wednesday was her third career multi-goal effort in 22 career matches. Hill now leads the Spartans with three goals and has found the back of the net 11 times in her career.
