Kickoff

The Michigan State women's soccer team (2-2) hosts intrastate rival Detroit on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 4 p.m. The contest will be televised on tape delay on the Big Ten Network on Wednesday at 8 p.m.

Scouting the Spartans

The Spartans enter the week with a 2-2 ledger. Fifth-year senior Nicole Galas has played every minute in goal this season and has 19 saves. Senior co-captain Erin Doan, senior Taryn Lee and sophomore Katie Rehor anchor the Spartan defense. Leading scorer Lauren Sinacola and senior co-captain Maureen Pawlak, who has 32 career points, are the top two players in the midfield. Sophomore Lauren Hill, MSU's leading scorer a year ago, junior Kristi Timar and freshman Cara Freeman are the team's top forwards.

SCOUTING DETROIT

The Titans are 0-3 and have been outscored 10-1 so far this season. Detroit's three losses have come on the road to MAC foes Eastern Michigan and Toledo and at home versus Eastern Kentucky. Sophomore Trina Kochanski has Detroit's only goal this season.

A LOOK BACK AT LAST WEEK

MSU split its two matches last weekend, shutting out Penn, 1-0, on Friday and losing a 2-1 overtime tilt at Lehigh. Maureen Pawlak and Lauren Hill scored goals for MSU. The two contests marked the first road trip of the season for the Spartans, who play their next three matches at home.

NO MORE EXTRA TIME

Michigan State is 2-0 when playing just 90 minutes and 0-2 when extra time is necessary. MSU lost its season opener, 1-0, in overtime to BYU on Aug. 31 and dropped a 2-1 overtime decision at Lehigh on Sunday. The Spartans are 1-4-1 in overtime contests over the past three seasons.

HILL NETS FIRST TALLY OF `07

Lauren Hill, MSU's leading scorer last season as a freshman, found the back of the net for the first time this season at Lehigh. It was Hill's ninth career tally.

SINACOLA STRIKES TWICE

Lauren Sinacola now has seven career goals after her two-tally performance against Syracuse on Sept. 2. Her first goal, which was also MSU's first of the season, came on a free kick in the third minute. The Rochester, Mich., native also found the back of the net in the 25th minute to lead MSU to victory.

...AND PICKS UP BIG TEN HONORS

Lauren Sinacola was named Big Ten Offensive Co-Player of the Week for her efforts last weekend, her first career weekly honor. She shared the honor with Ella Masar of Illinois.
