
Women's Soccer Concludes Season With Tie At Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Sophomore Lauren Hill scored a second-half goal and senior goalkeeper Nicole Galas made nine saves to lead the Michigan State women's soccer team in a 1-1 tie against Michigan Friday night in the season finale. MSU finishes the 2007 campaign with a 7-10-1 record, including a 1-8-1 Big Ten mark. Michigan concludes the year 3-9-6 and 1-5-4 in the Big Ten.
With the Wolverines leading 1-0 in the 51st minute, Hill took a pass from senior Taryn Lee and sent into the lower left corner of the net for the equalizer. The tally was her eighth of the season, matching her season total from last year.
Michigan's Amanda Bowery gave the Wolverines an early 1-0 lead with a goal in the third minute. Sarah Banco and Katie Miller assisted on the tally.
Galas, making her last start as a Spartan, had a busy night. The fifth-year senior stopped four UM tries in the first half and made three more saves in the second stanza. She added two more saves in the second overtime period, finishing the season with 68 saves and a 1.27 goals against average. Michigan goalkeepers Lindsay Yakel and Madison Gates each made one save.
Hill and sophomore Lauren Sinacola each had three shots for MSU. Bowery had eight shots, including five on goal, for Michigan.
Michigan outshot the Spartans 24-11 and had edges in shots on goal (10-3) and corner kicks (7-3). The Wolverines also committed twice as many fouls as the Spartans (20-10).
