DUBLIN, Ohio - The No. 24 Michigan State women's golf team finished in sixth place at the Lady Buckeye Invitational with a three-round team total of 891 (290-297-304) on the par-72, 6,177 yard, Golf Club of Dublin. With the regular season now complete, the Spartans are looking forward to the Big Ten Championships next weekend.
Sophomore Sara Brown (Tucson, Ariz.), ranked No. 50 in the nation, was the top Spartan with a three-round individual total of 220 (75-70-75) and tied for 11th place. The top-20 finish was Brown's seventh of the season and 10th of her career.
Senior Dayna Burleigh (Horsham, Pa.) shot 223 (73-75-75) to finish tied for 21st in her final regular season tournament as a Spartan. Junior Heather Rose (Chillicothe, Ohio) was next best for the Spartans, firing 224 (72-75-77) on the weekend and tying for 24th.
Recording a three-round total of 227 (71-79-77), junior Rachel Meikle (Fort Wayne, Ind.) tied for 35th. Freshman Holly Niederkohr (Marysville, Ohio) finished tied for 47th with a score of 229 (74-77-78). Auburn captured the team title with an outstanding team total of 15-under-par 849 (288-280-281).
Auburn's Maria Martinez was the individual champion with a score of 9-under-par 217 (67-69-71).
Michigan State now shifts its focus to the Big Ten Championships, April 28-30, at the IU Golf Course in Bloomington, Ind.
