
Women's Tennis Blanks Toledo, 7-0

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team rebounded from its loss earlier in the day to beat the Toledo Rockets Sunday evening. The Spartans won, 7-0 to improve their overall record to 6-2. Michigan State will play next on Feb. 11, when they travel to Oxford, Ohio, to face Miami University.
Sophomore Christine Bader (Okemos, Mich.) battled back after dropping the first set, 6-3, to junior Myriam Cueva, to win her match at the No. 1 singles spot. Bader won the second set, 6-2 and the final set 1-0 (6) to earn the victory. Bader was also successful in her doubles match with partner junior Sarah Andrews (Darwin, Australia), defeating the tandem of Cueva and Eunice Paravivini, 8-6.
Andrews also won her singles match, at the No. 5 spot, against sophomore Sarah Horning, 6-2, 6-1.
In No. 2 singles action, junior Pascale Schnitzer (Santiago, Chile) won in straight sets over Paravivini, 6-3, 7-6 (4). Schnitzer also teamed with freshman Ana Milosavljevic to earn an 8-1 doubles victory.
No. 2 doubles pair of junior Jessica Baron and freshman Stephanie Kebler was also victorious against Toledo, posting an 8-3 win. Baron and Kebler both coasted to singles victory in straight sets at the No. 3 and 4 singles spots, respectively.
"I think we still have many things to work on in order to score some victories over highly ranked teams," said Coach Tim Bauer. "I think this team can be a top-30 team, but if we go by that standard, we have a lot more work to do."
Freshman Aglaya Kokurina (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) rounded out the singles draw for Michigan State with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Sarah VanderMolen.
Following Saturday's match with the RedHawks, the Spartans will head to Muncie, Ind., on Sunday to take on Ball State University.
