AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) -- Aisha Jefferson scored 17 points and had 10 rebounds in Michigan State's 58-45 win over Hartford on Saturday.
Rene Haynes had nine points and six steals for the Spartans (7-1), who pulled away with a 30-19 second half at The Palace of Auburn Hills, home of the Detroit Pistons.
Danielle Hood and Ikea Witt each scored 12 points for the Hawks (7-4), who shot just 23.3 percent from the field after halftime.
Neither team could find the range beyond the arc, with Hartford 1-for-18 from 3-point range and Michigan State 0-for-12. Victoria Lucas-Perry, the Spartans' leading scorer this season, was held to eight points. She was 2-for-11 from the field with five turnovers. Allyssa DeHaan, a 6-foot-9 freshman, also struggled for Michigan State. After averaging 24 points and 9.5 rebounds last week, she had just six points and five rebounds.
The Hawks had a 41-39 edge in rebounds, including 20 at the offensive end, in part due to long rebounds on errant 3s.
