On the play of his team...
Well, it was very disappointing, especially after the effort we had last night, which was OK, but disappointing as well because we lost. We didn't compete today. It seemed like we were resting on what happened last night, and let's call it fatigue, but I don't think that was it. It was actually mental fatigue more than physical fatigue.
On how this game will affect the team's mentality for the rest of the season...
Hopefully, it won't for a long period of time, but they should be thinking about how you go about your business because that's what's important to learn. You have to show up every night ready to play if you want to be in every game, because what'll happen is you'll get blown out if you don't come ready and prepared to play. Especially with teams like us, because we don't match everyone athletically. My goodness, we had 19 turnovers. For us, that's three games worth of turnovers. I think they had 28 points off turnovers. We lost by 13 and the 28 points off turnovers and second-chance points are all things that we can control. So you have to use it as sort of a teaching game.
Central Michigan Head Coach Ernie Zeigler
Opening statement...
We talked about (yesterday's game) and looked at film and how bad we came out in the first half, but then we talked about the positives in the second half. We wanted to come out and establish that same mindset and stay to task and defend. We wanted to try to dictate the tempo and we were able to do that.
On capturing the first win of the season...
I'm very proud of this team, but at the same time, this has to be expected. We expected to come out and be able to execute and stay to task on our assignments defensively and offensively. Now, we have to incrementally get better as each game goes by, and not get too low after a tough loss or too high after a good win.
On Brown's defensive scheme...
We wanted to get the tempo going our way in terms of pushing the ball, and we were able to pressure the ball and cause some turnovers that allowed us to get out in transition. We did a really good job for the most part attacking their 1-3-1 extended zone and in the halfcourt. We had 12 assists on 22 buckets, so we did a good job of sharing the ball. We almost had four guys in double figures, so it was a good team effort.
