Spartans Finish 13th In Minneapolis

East Lansing, Mich. - - The Michigan State men's cross country team ran to a 13th place finish, out of 27 teams, at the Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota. The Spartans picked up 354 points, with an average time of 25:33. Junior Nick Oertel (Goodrich, Mich.) led the Spartans with a time of 25:10, good for a 42nd place finish. All seven MSU runners finished within 1:04 of each other.
Justin Zonotti (Chesterfield, Mich.) was 75th with a time of 25:35, Adam Sprangler (Jackson, Mich.) was 76th in 25:37 and Jim Pancoast (Stevensville, Mich.) finished 78th in 25:39, as the three ran together most of the race and crossed the finish line just seconds apart. Senior Nathan Egger (Bath, Mich.) was the final Spartan scorer, finishing 85th with a time of 25:43. Matt Bartelbaugh (Napoleon, Mich.) and Bobby Sherman also competed for the Green and White, completing the 8K course in 92nd and 117th place respectively.
Michigan State returns to action next weekend, when they travel to South Bend, Ind., to compete in the Notre Dame Invitational on September 30.
