Akron, Ohio - - The Michigan State women's soccer team improved to 4-1-2 with a, 1-0, win over Akron Friday night. The victory was the Spartans' fifth-straight shutout; Green and White goalkeeper Nicole Galas (Sterling Heights, Mich.) has not allowed a goal in 548:29. Senior midfielder Erin Konheim (West Bloomfield, Mich.) scored her second goal in two games when she volleyed home a Jenee Witherspoon (Midland, Mich.) cross in the 61st minute. On the play Witherspoon collected her fourth assist of the season.
Michigan State out-shot the Zips 7-2 in the first-half (10-3 for the game) and managed six corner kicks to Akron's zero, but could not solve UA goalkeeper Lauren Graff (four saves). Galas made two stops for MSU.
The Spartans have now won three consecutive games against Mid-American Conference opponents, raising their all-time record vs. the MAC to 28-3-3. Michigan State will face another Mid-American opponent on Sunday, Sept. 18 when it welcomes Western Michigan to Old College Field.
