IZMIR, Turkey - Michigan State junior wrestler Nick Simmons (Williamston, Mich.) finished fifth at the 2005 World University Games in Izmir, Turkey, on Saturday, Aug. 13. Simmons, who was competing in the freestyle event at 121 pounds, defeated Aliaksandr Lasitsa of Belarus (4-3, 0-6, 6-1) and pinned Nam Song of North Korea in 1:59 before falling to Simonyan Vahan of Armenia in the semifinals. He then lost a tight match to Hgyun-Jin Yoo of Korea in the bronze-medal match.
"It is good experience, coming over (to Turkey)," said Simmons on his experience at the World University Games. "It should have ended up better, but that's the way things go.
"You learn how the other countries wrestle and officiate international. Whatever I get from here is definitely going to help me in the long run."
