BENTON HARBOR, Mich. - Junior Matt Harmon (Grand Rapids, Mich.) continued his solid performance at the 103rd Western Amateur Championships, shooting a second-round 71 to put him at 141 (70-71) for the event. Harmon sits tied for 13th place overall, seven strokes behind leader Brian Carroll. His 13th place ranking qualifies him to continue tournament action, as he finished far ahead of the 50th place cut.
Three birdies on the front nine holes of play, along with one on the back nine propelled Harmon to another solid outing at the course. He is 1-over for the event coming into Friday's two rounds of action.
Redshirt freshman Grant Tungate (East Lansing, Mich.) carded a 76 in Thursday's 18 holes of play to go along with a first round 75, giving him a 151 for the tournament. Tungate missed the cut, as he finished below the 50th place mark.
