
Tungate Qualifies For Western Amateur

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. - Michigan State red-shirt freshman Grant Tungate (East Lansing, Mich.) has qualified for the 2005 Western Amateur Championship. Tungate shot a 71 in qualifying at the Lake Michigan Hills Golf Club in Benton Harbor, Mich., on Monday to become one of 41 golfers to qualify for this year's championship. A total of 275 golfers attempted to qualify on Monday at both the Lake Michigan Hills Golf Club and Warren Golf Club in South Bend, Ind.
The 103rd Western Amateur Championship opens on Wednesday (July 27) at the Point O'Woods Golf and Country Club in Benton Harbor. The nation's top amateur golfers will play 18 holes on Wednesday and Thursday, followed by a cut to the low 50 scores and tie. The players making the cut with play 36 holes on Friday, with the low 16 qualifying for match play on Saturday. The championship match will be held on Sunday, July 31.
