EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State senior Michelle Carson (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) was named today to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV University Division Women's Track and Field/Cross Country first team, advancing to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
The district team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district.
Carson, who holds a 3.95 grade-point average in dietetics, was a first-team Academic All-American in both 2003 and 2004. She was a regional qualifier in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the MSU track team during the outdoor season. She placed 10th in that event at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships and eighth at the Drake Relays. Carson also placed fourth in the 1,500-meter run at the MSU Invitational.
