ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Michigan State women's track and field team wrapped up competition Saturday at the Len Paddock Invitational hosted by the University of Michigan. It was the last warm-up for the Spartans prior to next weekend's Big Ten Championships.
Cynetheia Rooks led the way for MSU Saturday, racing to victory in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.68 seconds. Rooks defeated Michigan's Sierra Hauser-Price by just over two-tenths of a second, with the rest of the 17-person field at least a half second behind Hauser-Price. Rooks' time easily beat the NCAA Regional qualifying standard of 23.96 seconds. Paris Mandy was fifth in the 200 for MSU with a time of 24.90.
Also for MSU, Aimee Keenan placed third in the 800-meter run against a strong field with a time of 2:12.37. Brittany Ballard finished eighth in the 800 with a time of 2:17.43. Other runners competing for MSU included Chaquerra Allen, who finished ninth in the 400-meter dash (1:00.31), and Jackie Walton, who placed 10th in the 100-meter hurdles (14.72).
Meagan Halliwill had MSU's top finish in the field events, placing sixth in the discus with a throw of 131-2, while Erica Bailey was ninth in that event with a mark of 127-7. Allen placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 17-6 1/4, while Taren James placed 10th with a jump of 16-7. Stephanie Miller finished 13th in the pole vault with a height of 10-6.
Michigan State will compete in the Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships next Friday through Sunday (May 13-15) in Columbus, Ohio.
