
Izzo Named To USA Basketball Men's Collegiate Committee

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo has been named to the USA Basketball Men's Collegiate Committee. The 10-member committee is responsible for the selection of players and coaches who compete in collegiate-aged international competitions, including FIBA's U19 and U21 World Championships, the FIBA Americas U19 and U21 qualifying tournaments, Pan American Games, World University Games and other assigned events.
Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim will serve as the committee chair. Appointed to serve on the committee on behalf of the NCAA were Izzo, Pennsylvania's Fran Dunphy, Oregon's Ernie Kent and Kentucky's Tubby Smith. The NAIA appointed Columbia College's (Mo.) Bob Burchard and the NJCAA assigned Scott Schumacher, the head men's coach at Kilgore College (Texas). Kansas coach Bill Self was named by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Serving on the committes as the athlete representatives will be Steve Wojciechowski, a member of the 1995 Junior World Championship Team while at Duke University, and A.J. Wynder, a member of the 1995 Pan American Games silver medalist squad.
USA Basketball announced several different men's and women's competition and standing committees for the 2005-08 quadrennium. Former Spartan student-athlete Matt Steigenga is one of two athlete representatives on the Officials Committee.
