Women's Track And Field Competes At Hillsdale Relays

HILLSDALE, Mich. - Selected members of the Michigan State women's track and field team competed over the weekend at the Hillsdale College "Gina" Relays. The Spartans, competing primarily in field events, turned in several solid performances.
The top finish of the competition for MSU belonged to Anna Coster, who tied for fourth in the high jump, clearing 5-5. Danielle Linenger (5-3) tied for 11th in that event, while Allison Bzdok (5-1) tied for 20th). Coster also took ninth in the long jump (18-2 1/4) and 18th in the javelin (90-8).
MSU's best long jump belonged to Chaquerra Allen, who placed seventh soaring 18-8 1/2. Allen also competed in the triple jump, placing 10th with a leap of 35-6 1/2.
Erica Bailey finished eighth in the hammer throw (162-5), 15th in the discus (130-11) and 34th in the shot put (37-11 1/4) for MSU. Meagan Halliwill was ninth in the discus (138-4) and 33rd in the hammer (135-2), while Carol Bontekoe placed 26th in the discus (122-6).
In the pole vault, Stephanie Miller tied for 22nd by clearing 10-0.
MSU had just five runners competing on the track. The best fininsh came from Cassie Wilkins, who took 12th in the 5,000-meter run in 17:08.40. Natalie Stein (17:34.55) was 26th and Katie Anderson (17:58.67) placed 33rd in that event.
Emily Adama finished 13th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:24.09, while Genevieve Gourlay was 18th in the 100-meter hurldes in 15.60 seconds.
Michigan State will compete next Friday and Saturday (May 6-7) at the Jesse Owens Classic in Columbus, Ohio.
