
Alan Anderson Named To USBWA All-District Team

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State senior forward Alan Anderson (Minneapolis, Minn.) was named to the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) All-District 5 team on Tuesday, March 8. He is one of ten players from the states of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin to be honored. Eight of the ten honorees come from the Big Ten Conference.
Anderson is joined on the all-district squad by Illinois' Dee Brown, Luther Head and Deron Williams, Indiana's Bracey Wright, Marquette's Travis Diener, Minnesota's Vincent Grier, Ohio State's Terence Dials, Southern Illinois' Darren Brooks and Wisconsin's Mike Wilkinson.
Anderson was MSU's leading scorer in Big Ten games, averaging 14.4 points, and ranked second on the squad in rebounding with 6.1 boards per league contest. In all games, he ranks second in both scoring (13.4 ppg) and rebounding (5.5 rpg). After not scoring more than 18 points in the first 116 games of his career, he has scored more than 20 points in three of the last four contests. He is shooting 55.9 percent from the field this season and leads the conference with an 89.8 free-throw percentage, including a remarkable 92.7 percent in Big Ten games. He has played his best basketball down the stretch, averaging 16.6 points and 6.6 rebounds over the last nine games.
