Women's Golf Finishes Eighth At Central District Classic

PARRISH, Fla. - Michigan State women's golf concluded the final day of play (Feb. 22) at its host tournament, the Central District Classic, finishing eighth overall. The Spartans shot a third-round 301, to finish with a 918 (304-313-301) for the tournament. MSU's final-round 301 was its best showing of the tournament. The event, which was played at the River Wilderness Golf Course in Parrish, Fla., consisted of two days of tournament action, with 36 holes played on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday.
Missouri took home the Central District Classic title, shooting an 879 for the event. Arkansas (881), Baylor (892), Louisiana State (897) and Michigan (899) round out the top-five leaderboard.
Michigan's Amy Schmucker won individual medalist honors, shooting 216 for the tournament. Arkansas' Stacy Lewis tied for first with Schmucker, who came out on top, as the tie was decided by best third-round scores. Schmucker shot a 70, while Lewis finished with a 74.
Sophomores Heather Rose (Chillicothe, Ohio) and Mandi McConnell (Grand Blanc, Mich.) were the top finishers for the Spartans, each shooting a 229. Both players finished in a six-way tie for 30th overall. McConnell shot MSU's top score in the final round with a 74.
Junior Dayna Burleigh (Horsham, Pa.) tied for 36th with a 230 (77-78-75).
Rounding out the roster for the Green and White, sophomore Rachel Meikle (Fort Wayne, Ind.) concluded the day's events with a 231 (77-79-75), tying for 39th overall, while freshman Sara Brown (Tucson, Ariz.) shot a 240 (82-78-80). Brown finished in a four-way tie for 60th.
MSU will tee it up once again March 4-6, at the Lady Gator Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida in Gainsville.
