EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State center Paul Davis (Rochester, Mich.) has earned Men's Basketball Big Ten Player of the Week honors for his play in the past four games. Davis averaged a double-double with 22.5 points and 12.3 rebounds in those four games, in which the Spartans had a record of 3-1.
In the EA Sports Maui Invitational opening round game versus Chaminade, Davis had a solid performance with 16 points and 13 rebounds in the Spartans' victory over the Silverswords.
The semifinal game against Gonzaga saw Davis put up another double-double with 26 points and 13 rebounds. He was also perfect from the free-throw line, going 12-of-12 in the Spartans' triple overtime loss to the Bulldogs.
Davis' streak of double-doubles came to an end in the Maui Invitational third place game when he notched 18 points and nine rebounds. But once again Davis was flawless from the foul line, going 10-of-10, including 6-of-6 in overtime, as MSU beat Arizona 74-71.
The Spartan center finished the week with an impressive 30 point performance against IPFW. The 30 points was just two points shy of his career high. For the third straight game Davis didn't miss a free throw and he is currently on a career best streak of 29 straight made.
This is the fourth time Davis has been selected as the Big Ten Player of the Week. He earned the title once last season and twice during the 2003-04 campaign.
Davis' next action will be Wednesday Nov. 30 when the Spartans welcome Georgia Tech to the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Mich., as part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Tip-off is at 7:00 p.m. and the game is televised on ESPN.
