EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's golf team will face another strong test when it takes on seven teams in the Golfweek top 30 at the Coca-Cola Duke Classic on Sunday-Monday, Oct. 9-10. For the Spartans, junior Matt Harmon (Grand Rapids, Mich.) returns to Durham, N.C., after posting a tie for fourth and a tie for second in his first two appearances at the Duke Classic.
The 14-team field includes three Big Ten teams (Minnesota, Ohio State and Northwestern), and will feature 11 individuals ranked in the Golfweek top 50. Duke hosts the tournament and is the defending champion, while Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Florida Southern, North Carolina, N.C. State, Notre Dame, UNC Greensboro, UNC-Wilmington, Virginia and Virginia Tech round out this week's field.
At last season's Duke Classic, the Spartans finished 16 shots behind Duke's record-low score of 860, finishing in a tie for third. Harmon was one of four players to shoot a 6-under-par total of 210, but finished in second after losing the four-man playoff.
The Coca-Cola Duke Classic will be played at the par-72 Duke Club and begins with 36 holes on Sunday, while the final round will be played on Monday.
