Shimek Scores 24 In Green-White Game

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's basketball team played its annual Green and White game Thursday night at the Breslin Center. The game featured four 10-minute quarters, and the teams rotated players each quarter. A six-minute overtime period against the practice squad concluded the evening. Senior forward Liz Shimek led all players with 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting, while junior guard Rene Haynes scored 22 points to go along with four assists.
Senior Lindsay Bowen poured in 18 points and dished out 11 assists as the starting point guard for the White team. She connected for three 3-pointers and also collected seven steals.
Sophomore Laura Hall started at center for the White team and delivered nine points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Alisa Wulff, who sat out all of last season after transferring from Virginia, scored 10 points and nailed two 3's.
Several freshmen also turned in good performances. Tiffanie Shives, playing for both the Green and White teams, combined for 10 points and two treys. Aisha Jefferson racked up 12 boards and Lauren Aitch had eight rebounds and seven points.

In the first period, the White team started Bowen, Shimek, Hall, Haynes and Maggie Dwyer, and outpaced the Green team, 24-8.
The remaining periods were much more balanced, but the White team prevailed each time: 14-11 in the second, 15-11 in the third and 18-14 in the fourth.
In the overtime session against the male practice squad, the Spartans won, 16-10, behind six points from Haynes.
The Spartans play the first of their two exhibition games next Wednesday, Nov. 2 against Athletes in Action at the Breslin Center, beginning at 7 p.m.
