2006 Spring Schedule
EAST LANSING, Mich.- The Michigan State women's tennis team announced its schedule for the 2006 spring season, with its first dual-match coming on Jan. 14 against Virginia in Nashville, Tenn. The Spartans' schedule places them at home for 13 matches, including six in a row.
Opening day in East Lansing is slated for Jan. 22 as the Spartans host Detroit Mercy and Cleveland State in their first double-header. MSU will host a second double-header on Feb. 5 as it welcomes Louisville and Toledo.
State will then travel to Miami (Ohio) and Ball State before their spring trip on March 7 where it will face Boston University and FAMU in Florida.
State will open up Big Ten action at home against in-state rival Michigan on March 22. That same week, MSU will host the 2005 Big Ten Champion Northwestern Wildcats on March 25, followed by Wisconsin on March 26.
The Spartans will take to the road on April 1-2 with stops at Iowa and Minnesota. On April 8 they will return home as they welcome the Fighting Illini to town, followed by a home match with Purdue on April 9.
State will face Ohio State on April 16 for its last regular season road match. MSU will round out the regular season at home as it hosts Indiana on April 22, followed by Penn State on April 23.
The 2006 Big Ten Championships will be played on April 27-30 at Illinois.
Last year, MSU exploded with a 7-2 record before entering the Big Ten Season. However, State posted a 1-10 record in the Big Ten last year and will look to its experienced singles players to help improve its record.
The Spartans return four starters to its lineup including juniors Sarah Andrews, Jessica Baron, Pascale Schnitzer and sophomore Christine Bader.
Last year, the Spartans marked a 7-1 record at home, including a seven-match winning streak.
