
Men's Golf Alumni Vie For PGA TOUR Membership

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Men's golf alumni Eric Jorgensen (2000-03), Andrew Ruthkoski (2002-05), and Jimmy Chestnut (2004-05) are competing in the first stage of the PGA TOUR's Q-School in hopes of earning PGA TOUR membership.
Jorgensen entered today's final round three shots shy of qualifying for next month's second stage, while Chestnut was unable to qualify, finishing tied for 48th at his qualifying site. Ruthkoski begins his first round on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at the Grasslands Golf & Country Club in Lakeland, Fla.
The four-round first stage runs from Oct. 11-28, at 14 sites across the country. Players qualifying through the first stage advance to the second stage on Nov. 10-13 or Nov. 17-20. The six-round final stage runs from Dec. 1-6 at the Panther Lake Course and Crooked Cat Course in Orlando, Fla.
Through three rounds, Jorgensen, a 2002 third-team All-American, is at 5-under-par (67-73-71 - 211) and in a tie for 32nd at the par-72 Kannapolis Country Club in Kannapolis, N.C. With the top 20 and ties advancing, the cut line was at 8-under-par at the beginning of the day.
Chestnut, a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, finished at 6-over-par (73-71-77-69 - 290) at the par-71 TPC at Tampa Bay in Luntz, Fla. With the top 19 and ties qualifying, Chestnut missed advancing by nine shots.
