Champaign, Ill. - The Michigan State women's soccer team wrapped up a three-point road trip with a, 0-0, tie at Illinois. In the process sophomore goalkeeper Nicole Galas (Sterling Heights, Mich.) earned her eighth shutout of the 2005 campaign, tying an MSU record. Galas made six saves and the Spartans fended off two Illini cornerkicks, in the final 30 seconds, improving to 5-1-1 in Big Ten play and 9-3-4 overall.
Each team placed six shots on goal, in an evenly played game decided by the strong goaltending of Galas and Illinois' Lindsey Carsten. Galas has now posted eight shutouts in 17 career appearances at MSU. It was the fifth overtime game of the season for the Green and White, but its first in seven contests dating back to a, 2-2, tie with Detroit. Michigan State also posted a scoreless tie on Sept. 4 against the University of Texas.
The Spartans will shoot for their fifth consecutive double-digit win season on Friday, Oct. 21, when they return home to host Minnesota. MSU will then entertain the first-place Nittany Lions on Senior Day, Sunday Oct. 23, at Old College Field.
